Arg I be a Pirate these days! Well I was yesterday while on a treasure hunt with Hibernia! It was actually great fun I have to admit! Fair play to Hibernia they managed that much....well the coiste here did anyway! We went right through Baile and Sceillg using the clues and directions given to get the answers to local questions. Was great fun altogether! I loved it! And we got some great pics on the beach of our “group”.....we kinda cheated a bit and there were 5 of us working together to get the answers even though there was only ment to be TWO per team!! Who’s silly idea was that?? It was far more fun to have a big group and lots of girly giggles!
John Spillane played here then last night, I was all excited...I have a bot of a soft spot for John Spillane you see....He played all the old favs “Dunnes Stores Girl” “Jonny don’t go to Ballincollig” and “Passage West” along with a lot from his Irish songs we learnt in school album! The hall erupted into song when he sang “Oro se” and “Puc ar Buile”
We had a great night last night although I saw a few sick heads this morning....not me though I’m a little angel me!!!
Today I had to endure a intermediate level grammar class (they don’t do advanced level) and I can tell you I was dying of boredom by then. ICK!! I just passed around the notes I use when I’m giving grinds and let the girls use them, I didn’t like their way of teaching certain things and I know my way is easier to learn!! Hehehe evil giggle!!!
Some session lark on tonight that I am SO not able for! Ill stay for a while and dash off for the night! Sometimes a girl just needs a quiet night in.....
WOOHOO Delilah!!
So Jack the mechanic is my new best friend here in the Gaeltacht! After a godawful day yesterday I was lucky enough to just pass out when my head hit the pillow last night. I waited nervously til lunch time to ring Jack....such a very very long morning I can tell you!
Lunch time....I raced outside straight after class to ring Jack. Cathy and Louise awaited anxiously beside me. Jack the star himself had my Lilah fixed by lunch time!!
WOOHOO!!
We had art after lunch and I can assure you it was the longest class ever....I just wanted my Delilah back! Come half four I dragged Cathy out to her car so we could go to Cahersiveen to collect Delilah.....She now drives like a dream! It's amazing how much you need your car and miss your car when you don't have it...
Especially if you're daft enough to name you car Delilah!

Delilah Bocht!
Táim go hionlán traochta inniú! Tá na ranganna ag éirí níos ladránaí in aghaidh na lae.....Ach ar a laghadh tá scéal an greannmhar agam inniú! Bhuel, deirim greannmhar níor cheap mé go raibh sé an an am....
Tá gluastain agam...Delilah is ainm di! Ar maidin chuaigh mé féin, Cathy agus Delilah go dtí an scoil. Bhíomar breá sasta fiú nuair a bhí sé ag stealladh báistí lasmuigh! Bhí an rang againn agus bhí an sos beag againn agus ag am lón bhí orm dul ar aís chuig an teach! FADHB!! The battery in my car was dead as a doornail. ***k I wasn’t one bit happy! I rang Gavin in an awful state bout my “Lilah” and went off to my drama class at half two. I had to ask of the lads could I borrow jump leads and try to start my car. Off we went, Cathy, Louise and myself to jump start Delilah bocht. FADHB!! It didn’t work, we asked of the lads to help and used his car. FADHB!! It didn’t work either. Bhí mo chroí bhriste! I rang my Dad and ended up ringing the insurance crowd to come rescue me. I rang a guy in Scotland to come fix my Delilah Bocht in Dromod Co. Kerry. ( I know it doesn’t make sense to me either) off to the pub I went to wait for the “meicneoir” Tháinig Jack an meicneoir go dtí an Dromode. He recharged my battery and we tried to start Lilah again. FADHB!! It didn’t work. Bhi mé trína cheile. The mechanic Jack went back to Cahersiveen to get a tow truck to tow my poor Delilah because her petrol pump is broken!
DELILAH BOCHT!!
Le cúnamh Dé I’ll have a “new” petrol pump from the scrap heap in Kilorglin tomorrow morning, otherwise Jack will have to put an Opel pump into my Daewoo!
What a day! And they say nothing ever happens in Kerry! I’ll be the first to admit it WASN’T funny when it happened but being stuck in a pub all day has its advantages, if only I’d had cash to have a drinkie! Still it was a great excuse to miss the Ceilí tonight .....
“Ní feidir liom fánacht anocht, mo bhrón ach bhí mé anseo don lá ar fad ag fánacht leis an meicneoir nuair a bhris mo ghluastain síos i nDromod inniú”

Óiche na Ceilí
So the fun is wearing off the Gaeltacht. I’m completely exhausted after a wild night of dancing at the ceilí last night! I couldn’t get up outta the bed this morning.....which lead a cranky enough Hellie! And yes EVEN I get cranky! I’m basically just sick of the place now and would love better then to go home to my own bed and not have to listen to any more basic “irish classes” Tá na ranganna gaelinne an léadránach ar fad! And if I’m honest I don’t care enough to pretend to listen to the teachers trying to teach us words that we expect kids to know in school! ARG! No wonder the education system is a mess in Ireland! Enough ranting for now I think......
The ceilí was great craic but I am shattered after the night on the dance floor! I’m just not fit enough I guess! I’m happy enough to say that I actually remember learning all those dances in school....Go raibh maith agat Meabh!! But that said part of my even last night woulda liked nothing more then to have my dance partner there to have fun.....where is she when she’s needed? It reminded me of school when the boys had no interest in dancing with the girls and of course the teachers made them! So they awkwardly stood around and made a half assed effort and attempt to move....aon do trí, aon do trí, preab kick aon do trí! Although I’d take those school days back in a heart beat right now! The excitement of dancing with the boys when we were in 1st year or even 2nd year was unreal!! By the time they were “comfortable” and old enough to dance with us in school that naive innocence was long gone! But thems were indeed the days! There was one day in school during a PE class and the teacher decided the best way to make us dance was to just pair us up so we’d dance and not argue about it! I was paired up with a guy I had a serious thing for....of course being the shy awkward girl I was back then I was terrified, delighted, excited and nervous as hell in case I made an ass of myself! There must have been something in the air cause for the first time ever I didn’t fall over my own two feet when he was near me! I even managed to talk and not go beetroot red!
Last night was similar, in so far as the boys had to forced into dancing at first and paired up with the girls! By the end of the night though they were far more relaxed and comfortable and were happily asking us to dance.....real old fashioned but we are in the Gaeltacht at a ceilí!
Better stop rambling on before I end up ranting again and see about finding some chocolate to sweeten me up!

Nerdosoreous Hellie
OK so I’m in Kerry at the Gaeltacht in the middle of Dromod....don’t ask where that is I keep getting lost here! Mind you it is only day one...I guess considering my track record in Dublin to be getting lost on day one in Dromod, where every hedge and field looks the same is totally normal and expected! I am after all Hellie....
So we went for coffee after the “class” today, that “class” consisted of the college telling us the rules ie speak irish! Thats it, it took forever to tell us that much and of course get us to sign a sheet of paper. So we went into Waterville to get a coffee and get out for a while! Myself and two others from the house came along too. So we chatted and met four from the Dublin groups at the table next to us.
Everywhere we go we hear horror stories of other houses and how bad they are prime example being the house 15miles from the schools with nine people staying there and only TWO showers, and TWO cars! In all fairness!! Hibernia did ask about cars and sharing the driving but those poor people in that house have two cars between 9 people, that will be a nightmare! When you compare that to the house with 7 people across from the school and 7 cars it kinda makes you wonder were Hibernia even thinking when they organised this 3 week stint? Our house is just 5 miles away, there are 6 of us with 5 cars and 4 bathrooms....we were so so so so lucky with our house and all that! The girls here in the house with me are lovely! The girl im sharing with I had agreed to share with months ago and we’re great friends so I knew that much before getting here but we had no idea who else would be in the house with us but we were so so so lucky! We’re all Cork based, the two of us being Cork A and the other four are Cork B. It’s nice to finally get chance to talk to the Cork B girls (and boys if we see them!) So over all we have done fantastically well to get such a good and NEW house!
Although we had a few mishaps such as the washing machine this morning, I tried to do a white wash but the washer didn’t rinse or empty properly and my “roomie” dropped her wedding present necklace down the sink last night (plumbing issues for us both) so being sensible postgrads we rang the woman who owns the house to ask her and she sorted the washing machine and her husband is going to sort the sink....so long as we remember not to use the taps in there in our en-suite til he does!
The only real issue here is the network issues as in the internet is awful bad....it’s hard work to even get enough signal to do this much! I miss Facebook! Along with the usual streaming sites to watch greys and the like! I’ll become a nerd and end up bringing the laptop to school and coffee shops to get enough signal to send emails and do the Facebook updates! Sad life I know but her I have a Nerdasorous t-shirt....did you really expect me to be anything else??

Múinteoir nó dalta?
Well I’ve just finished up in Dublin with the Spanish kids....and boy am I glad to be training as a primary teacher....Teenagers are a nightmare!! Although I’m told that Irish teens are miles better then the Spanish!! They were sooo sexually charged that they were actually hard work to deal with! As it is the Spanish are a lot more affectionate then we are and within days are “best friends” and hugging and kissing each other all the time. It is totally normal to see them sat on each other and holding hands boys and girls alike! But my class....WOW....a porno film would have been a less traumatic experience for the primary teacher!!
All in all though I did enjoy it and really look forward to going back again next year! I was very lucky this year and had Trinity students as well, basically kids who are serious and take an English oral language exam, so not only had I a mix of grades but I was paid extra too for the overtime I did!!
Best of all was the few days that Gav spent there with me! We did the whole girly shopping thing and saw Bruno (ok so not the best film ever and def not one I’d sit through again but it was a fun night all the same!) and of course like all good students we went to see the “Bodies” expo in city centre with another friend of ours! Was really good and exciting but wow did we feel like we need to study more biology and we shoulda paid more attention in school! But sure it’s all gravy! Afterwards there was tradional fish and chips!! Naturally!!
So I finished up in Clondalkin on Friday...heartbroken to be leaving the teachers and friends I have there! But delighted to be going back to Limerick for the night and to celebrate my ripe old age of 23 with Gavin! And then Saturday.....
well I’m in the Gaeltacht now!! It’s actually sunny today for a Sunday morning it’s quite impressive! We went for a few drinkies last night myself, and two of the Hibernia girls!! And today it’s off to our first class at 2pm.....I guess we’ll have to wait and see what that’s like! The house is fab! We were very very lucky when we compare pur house to others.....I share a room with one of the girls from my class and its grand out! As comfortable! Although I’ll admit the bed in Leixlip was that bit easier to sleep in....not as bouncy! Even with Gavin there it was comfortable! Still I slept well and feel great today!!
Go n-éirí an t-adh libh!!

Fail!
Ok I took on the roll of the worlds worst teacher today! I growled at the classes although they did deserve it! The first class has 16 people in the class and only 1 did the homework, thats 15 who had extra homework today!!! The second class refused to stop talking and worse it was in spanish so I had them write a letter saying sorry....afterwards they were ALMOST model students! almost but not quite! Still it was improvement I guess! But it still feels like I've failed them today and took my issues out on them and made the day even worse for us all!
Teachers lunch then after class today!! It was so much fun! can't beat a girly gossip after a bad day! And my goodness what a terrible few days its been! I'll be glad when the dublin thing is all over if the rest of the week is like this! Still I'm now half way through it all only a few days left and then I'll be back home for a night in with my book, a real dinner and maybe even a film with a glass of wine in bed! Oh the simple pleasures!!
Roll on the 17th!!

Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?
OK so I have MAJOR issues with the M50 I've discovered! I just can't seem to get onto the right end of it heading to school each morning! So far I've ended up in Malahid twice and half way to Galway once! Not to mention trips to Celbridge, Maynooth, Claon and other random villages that I will never ever be able to find again should I ever feel the need to go there!! Oh my! I manage to get lost fairly often but the this bite the biscuit!! I was heading back to the house the other day, normal enough right? Wrong! I got lost! Took a wrong turn somewhere and next thing I knew I was outside Liffey Valley Shopping Centre!! WOOHOO says you....eh no! Too broke to shop :( but I wouldnt be a real girl if I didnt feel the need to have a wee nose around there to find out what is there should I ever be able to shop again.....H&M has my name on it!!
I love the teaching though....it's pretty much the same group of teachers who were there last year and they're the nicest bunch of people!! We're having great fun after school each day in fits of giggles about various bits and pieces!! Not to mention the HOT question every single morning
"Where did you get lost to today Helen?"
I'm happy to say its tuesday of week 2 and I didn't get lost today!! WOOHOO!! There's a staff lunch/coffee tomorrow I think in some pub so we be warned there will be teachers who don't stop messing and laughing out and about tomorrow!!
As for my classes, I have 3 from last year back in my class this year and so far their english is much better!! Hopefully it'll last!! The class over all are ok, some are lovely and little sweethearts but there are others....and wow I'm glad I'd have to teach them!! What a serious let down they must be! And as a teacher let me assure there is nothing worse then having a student that could be VERY VERY VERY good waste themselves and let you down in classes! Its painful for a teacher to watch and worse when you know you're wasting your time and they just won't be helped. Thankfully I only have a few of these in my class so far and I can manage them....mostly.
Looking forward to going home though, you'd be amazed what you miss when its too far to travel home!
I'd kill for a mammy Sunday dinner!!
